10 Tips for Managing Hot Flashes at Work

Hot flashes can be uncomfortable and disruptive, especially when they happen at work. But don’t let them interfere with your productivity and focus. Here are some practical tips to help you manage hot flashes while at work:

1. Dress in layers: Wear breathable clothing that can be easily removed or added as needed.

2. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol.

3. Use a fan: Keep a small fan at your desk or workspace to help cool you down.

4. Take breaks: Take frequent breaks to step outside or find a cool place to rest.

5. Use a cooling towel: Keep a cooling towel in the fridge and use it to cool down when needed.

6. Be on Time: Give yourself adequate time to get to work and to meetings. The stress of rushing around can raise your body temperature and trigger a hot flash. When you have adequate time, you’re better able to remain at ease, which can help reduce the frequency of hot flashes.

7. Avoid spicy foods: Spicy foods can trigger hot flashes, so avoid them during work hours.

8. Talk to your boss: If your hot flashes are affecting your work, talk to your boss about possible accommodations.
